The Government of Pakistan has decided to "Stop Work" in an effort to deal with the energy crisis. In a special cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani deliberated on a number of recommendations, including minimal working hours, multiple weekly offs and early closure of businesses to improve load management in the country.
The special committee on energy headed by Finance Minister Dr Hafeez Shaikh briefed the meeting on the current situation.
The cabinet decided to introduce minimal working hours, two weekly holidays in Government Offices and Banks and closure of markets after sunset.
According to sources, an increase in the prices of electricity and gas was also decided during the meeting.
