Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Auqaf and Religious Affairs Namroz Khan has said that the administration of Masjid Qasim Ali Khan has violated the promise as they had earlier agreed to convene a moon-sighting session on Monday, i.e. after the sun-set of 29th Sha'ban (1st August). But rather strangely, they have convened the moon-sighting session one day earlier, which means that 28th Sha'ban will be the last day of month.
Earlier, an emergency session was summoned by Mufti Shahabuddin Popalzai in Peshawar for the moon-sighting at Masjid Qasim Ali Khan after claims of moon sightings were received by a few unidentified people.
According to the administration of Masjid Qasim Ali Khan, including Mufti Shahabuddin Popalzai, evidence of the moon-sightings were received from Peshawar and surrounding areas, from six people including a woman, on the basis of which the clerics announced to observe the first fast on Monday (1st August) in Peshawar, which means that 28th Sha'ban will be the last day of month.
However, details of the people claiming moon-sighting have not been provided.
In the past, the administration of Masjid Qasim Ali Khan in Peshawar have refused to accept the authority of the Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee of Paksitan and at no time adhered to its decisions.
